Donāt distance yourself. Donāt blame the system.
Say something like:
āI want to walk you through a decision thatās been made and what it means for us.ā
āThis is where we are ā and my job is to help us move forward.ā
W ā Witness the Emotion
Acknowledge the human side of disappointment, frustration, or confusion.
This isnāt about sugarcoating ā itās about respect.
Say something like:
āI know this may feel like a setback. Thatās valid, especially given all the effort weāve put in.ā
N ā Name the Impact Honestly
Be transparent. Donāt over-explain or get defensive. People want clarity, not spin.
Say something like:
āThis means weāll be pausing work on the platform and shifting focus to core deliverables for Q3.ā
I ā Invite Constructive Focus
Help the team re-engage. Lead them forward instead of leaving them stuck.
Say something like:
āLetās talk about where we can still have meaningful impact this quarter.ā
āWhat ideas do you have about using what weāve built so far?ā
T ā Teach Through the Moment
Use this as an opportunity to reinforce resilience, adaptability, and ownership.
Say something like:
āChanges like this are part of how businesses evolve. What matters is how we respond as a team.ā
āThis is a chance to strengthen our focus, not lose it.ā
